How About Freezing Defense Spending?

OK, as long as we freeze entitlements as well.

That spending is not sustainable

Overall? Probably. Just defense? Not at all

What's unsustainable is the entitlement spending which could easily reach 10 times as much as the defense budget some time later this century.

You see that bright green line? The one at the top? The one that’s way higher than all its colorful competitors? That represents procurement funding for combat aircraft.

Which is normal when your replacing an old generation of aircraft (F-15s, F-16s, F-14s) with a new (F-22, soon JSF, and also a relatively new but not next generation F-18 E/F). There was a similar situation when we started buying the previous generation, than after most of them where bought we could save on that category for awhile.

It’s only a slight exaggeration to say we don’t use combat aircraft in the wars we’re fighting.

Its not an exaggeration, its an outright false statement.
