Sooooo... How long did it take cash-for-clunkers to pull forward all that demand?

Now, how many months of 8K freebucks giveaways would it take to deplete a years' supply of first time homebuyers?

I've seen it erroneously mentioned that this housing giveaway (that you and I are forced to finance for the benefit of the housing lobby) can't possibly be removed due to the horrific consequences removal would exact upon the economy. The unfortunate truth is that once the stimulus has been in place for a little while, it becomes irrelevant either way. All the demand is already brought forward. It's very similar to the buildup of tolerance to opiates in the brain. It doesn't matter whether you keep the stimulus in place or not - the demand has merely been brought forward, and until fresh demand has a chance to build, the effect of the existing stimulus will be reduced regardless.
