In my view if there was any inappropriate action it was the Presidents. He made an absolutely false statement to get some political applause. Judge Alito, was, I am sure, taken by surprise. The President, on the other hand, prepared those remarks and had the chance to research their accuracy and chose to be lazy or to lie. He either got it wrong or lied. I think he lied. I do not believe any President would have made an inadvertent mistake about such a point. He would have insisted that it be researched.

Also Judge Alito did not call him a liar. He said the statement was untrue, which is different than saying the President lied.

If it had been me in that situation, I would have gotten up and left the chamber.
