A good CEO would say "Take some $ from your fuel budget, and some $ and people from maintenance, and build a few windmills and stick them on the roof. Find some old hippie plans in ancient Mother Earth News issues. You can probably do it for <1000 bucks. Use some of that scrap metal and surplus piping you have lying around. Then run water thru copper pipes wrapped around the furnace, and preheat the water B4 he goes to the hot water heater."
