And blame the filibuster, under which 41 senators can make the country ungovernable, if they choose — and they have so chosen. Soooo, democrats with 59 senators are going to sit in a corner pouting and blame republicans? If that's the best Krugman and liberals can come up with they don't deserve to rule. Doris Kearns Goodwin had a great solution last night on Jon Stewart; pass a great bill and let the republicans go ahead and filibuster. Democrats did that in the 60's(?) on civil rights and after many days of filibustering the republicans caved and legislation was passed. BUT, the key here is you have to have a great bill that Americans can understand and want. The idea here is that republicans will look stupid and that will then break this cute trick of threatening democrats each time they propose something - with a filibuster. Doris said that rules are such that you can't eat or even go potty and you have to keep talking .....republicans will look like jackasses and we can get on with governing.
