1/29/10 Update
President Obama's State of the Union speech did little to reverse the sour state of Wall Street. The broad market indexes finished 2010's first month in the red, with the Nasdaq Composite Index at Friday's close down -5.37% YTD (vs. down -2.81% YTD a week ago). In contrast, the Nasdaq Biotech Index, still courageously bucking the Bears, closed the month up 1.96% YTD (vs. up 1.94% YTD a week ago) and the Contest median closed up 1.97% YTD (vs. up 4.17% YTD a week ago).
Portfolios holding GNVC were hit hard by its PIPE-related decline and DEWDIL's portfolio took back the lead, closing up 18.57% YTD. GEORGIA's portfolio held on to second place, up 16.1% YTD. And, although I usually don't publicize the bottom-ranking portfolios, since it's my own that's dead last I'll sheepishly note that I'm already off -12.34% YTD. Thankfully, my real life portfolio is still about even, so I won't have to quit being the Contest scorekeeper and heaven forbid get a job.
At Friday's close, 20 of the 32 Contest portfolios were in the black and 16 of the 32 were beating the NBI.
Along with the usual Top Ten list, this week's update also includes the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and Lost.
