elmat,

The researchers with integrity will echo some your comments. They know the history can all be re-written with the next find. The pace of new discoveries are increasing at a dramatic rate.

As for the origin of our origins, at the present time there is very, very strong evidence that Africa is correct. We do not need the fossil record to establish this, but rather the genetic record. This is covered in great detail in that book, and I highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in this topic. Who knew that lice could be so interesting (lice genetics being one of the markers on the timeline of human evolution).

Paleoanthropology is one of my favorite topics. I was hooked by Leakey's, "Origins Reconsidered". It is amazing that father Leakey, mother Leakey, and son Leakey all made major contributions.

Another book of interest is, "The First Human". It does not paint a very flattering picture of Richard Leakey's "control" of certain sites. Well worth the time if you have an interest in the race to expand the fossil record.

And, on June 1, we will have the release of a major work from Johanson. I am very much looking forward to it.

At one time I considered walking away from the career and doing a few years of field study in Africa. Unfortunately the physical demands exceeded my capabilities, but I'm content to watch from an armchair.
