Some of the older French designs, like the Peugeot 304, have a very good reputation as rugged cars for developing countries and less than perfect roads.

This might become a good choice for developed countries which may not have enough tax revenue to maintain their roads.
The pre-computer Peugeots can simple to maintain.

Citroen has been a technical innovator, if you wanted to be an automotive beta tester, and occasionally wait a month for repair parts.

One possible Citroen advantage: many of them are too weird to steal, and where would the thief sell the parts ?
