Brazil has the 5th largest population in the world, almost 200 million people. They're going to want bigger homes, more cars, motorcycles, big-screen TVs, electronics, kitchen appliances, electric toothbrushes, power tools, Disneyland vacations, and all the other energy-hogging stuff that goes with a modern consumer society.
Oh yes, and a bigger defense capability too. Your military wayo men are already concocting the need for a larger force to protect the sub-salt hydrocarbon resource and solidify Brazil's pre-eminence in Latin America. Maybe you can get a deal on a used aircraft-carrier battle group from the downsizing USA. All those ships and planes will need a lot of fuel! ;) |
