"Most times I would rather buy on the ex-dividend date when the stock price falls. I figure I invest fewer $$ for a smidgeon higher yield. Just my preference." also why pay ordinary income tax on a stock dividend you held one day versus taking a lower basis and getting (hopefully) a capital gain in the future.
