James - Re: "Today's news -- Hambrecht & Quist downgrades INTC from "buy" to "hold," citing lack of presence in the sub-$1,000 PC market."
Here's a heads up.
How many sub <$1000 computers have been sold this year?
How many TOTAL AMD & Cyrix low-end chips have been sold this year?
Cyrix shipped 400,000 MediaGX's last quarter and has only ONE Tier 1 design win. I think they shipped 250,000 the prior quarter - Q2.
AMD has shipped 1,350,000 K6's (Q2 + Q3) and most of these were too expensive for sub $1000 computers - so let's say, 400,000 were cheap enough. Toss in another 1,000,000 K5's and the total is 2,050,000 for the past two quarters (AMD + Cyrix).
With the total CPU market for those two quarters at about 42,000,000 either the sub $1000 PC market is only 5% of the market or INTEL has the major market share.
During those two quarters, Intel had PROFITS (with a PLUS SIGN) of about $3,000,000,000 (That's BILLION, with a "B")
What were the profits of AMD PLUS CYRIX for those two quarters?
Please provide the answer.
