I can't imagine what life is like in San Juan. If I understand conditions from reports and "look-sees" at air photos the "city" sits right next to the process plant, on the side of a mountain in the middle of a high range desert. You go home only to still eat the dust and fumes from the plant, you are reliant on the plant for power and water and some of the workers had the luxury of training at Lamaque a few years ago so they know how miners should be treated [i.e. what a real dry looks like]

But hey, Peggy made it sound like it would take just a short time to get SJ up to "name plate" production of 31,000 opy. But that "suggested" production level was only a 2006 estimate. Never mind the 80,000 opy she advertised as possible from Dr. Kowaleski's study.

Problem with SJ is that it has never been taken seriously as a mine and no one has put the kind of money into it that it needs. Peggy has tried to bootstrap that project from the beginning - it needed major modernization and has only seen piecemeal efforts. Then when she almost bankrupt the company, she sucked every last cent out of SJ.

If all of the money wasted on Colina Dorado, Poderosa, Algamarca, Sulliden and Shahuindo had instead been invested in SJ, CMM would have a decent mine.

Lori McClenahan is making progress figuring out the geology next door, using modern tools and custom milling. Some smart operator should take her and SJ out and make a real project out of it.

Now as far as the culture goes... who got the better end of the deal when it came to Algamarca, Rosario de Belen and Shahuindo? Nuff said!

H3

BTW - any idea who owns Rosario de Belen these days?
