Governments, directed by their electorates, have pretty much plucked as many tax feathers as possible from the goose that lays the golden eggs.
They are now debating whether to actually kill the goose and eat it, If they do, that will lead to Zimbabwe lifestyles in those with no more tax geese to pluck, eat the eggs from or eat the goose.
While the getting was good and the productive could survive the government parasites, the government spivs could go on expanding. They became so big that they think they ARE the country and ARE the producers.
Now, the jig is up, the looting has run out. Now what?
Haha that is funny. < he wouldn't be bothered by irritations like pesky government building inspectors enforcing seismic construction standards. > Ask Google about "leaky building" and read [you will give up before reading a tiny fraction about the problem]. That's your great government standards for you.
You don't really think there isn't a government in China where the building fell over? Bribery and corruption are more easily successful in Big Government places because the individuals don't care.
Privately owned and managed engineering provides more incentive to get things right. My neighbour is rebuilding their house. The council is a joke among us - just last night we were cursing them. My neighbour wants his house to be robust. He does not want leaks and rotting timber.
Greenies came up with non toxic screwball untreated timber ideology, inflicted on the rest of us, with stupid construction techniques and lax enforcement and $billions in losses for house buyers who trusted government inspectors.
The point of having governments is to keep control of Tradable Citizenship, protect private property and people, sell the body parts of criminals at auction, enforce borders, manage public assets to maximize returns, enforce contracts.
It's also good to live in a place where the need for government action is very low - that means the population is highly civilized and no need for such government enforcement exists.
