>>It works if you don't mind the wait, or if you have the US as a backstop to get around the worst waits if need be, and to fund the drug development for the conditions you might get, while your government operates as a monopsony buyer to force down the local prices.<<

It works because people get the care they really need, without ever having to worry about it, Tim, and without having financial stress added to their burden when they become ill. As far as I am concerned, that's better than the way it works here.

There are waits for some types of procedures, but that is more because many Canadians live in less populous areas, where there are, naturally, fewer facilities. Many Americans who live in small towns go to different states when they require certain kinds of care. Kate recently posted about how people go from her town in Arkansas to Texas for cancer treatments, for example. So does that mean the healthcare "system" in Texas is superior to the one in Arkansas? No, it just means that MD Anderson, the number one cancer treatment facility in the US, happens to be located in Houston, one of the very largest cities in the country, and not in some small town in a nearby state.

And just FYI, a lot of drugs are developed by pharmaceutical companies in Europe. We don't have a lock on that here. Not only that, but a lot of medical research goes on in Canada. Go figure.

Your points are simply bogus.
