If Americans are as whiny and demanding as you say, then it's hopeless. Which is pretty much what I have thought all along.

Yeah, it's pretty close to hopeless. The best I've ever hoped from health care reform is that we not make things any worse.

You will never have the choice of what gets rationed

If you pay your own way, you have a choice. If you have an opportunity to choose from a variety of plans and switch from one to the other if you find something more suitable, you have a very close approximation of choice. If you are part of a single payer federal system, hardly any. You get to decide whether you die gracefully or railing at the system.

I predict that America will solve none of its problems-

On that we can agree.

I engage on this topic not because I'm hopeful but because it's what I used to really, really love doing for a living. I've been retired for nine years now but the old war horse whinnies and snorts at the mere thought of taking on something like this.
