No Nixon was not approproiately paranoid. He did not understand at all what was going on. His thinking was so primitive he was still a racist!

The 60's was a major social pardigm shift. It was the beginning of a metamorphases from a society based on myth to a society based on reason i.e. the firsty major worldwide existential movement in the history of mankind.

Nixon had no understanding of that and Macgovern undertood it cold. Nixon knew the war was lost but let it go on for years killing thousands. He was a sociopath dude.
