Lower prices for their product almost certainly will make them less profitable.

They would have to raise prices to other governments. This is not rocket science... companies do it all the time, the drug companies do it all the time. Frankly with government contracts if the vendor can show cost issues the governments are usually more than willing to allow a price increase.

Hospitals in Japan pay less than 1/2 what a hospital in the US pays for an MRI machine. Our legislators in their infinite wisdom have deemed that we can't re-import drugs from Canada that we sold them in the first place.

You are a free market guy... the markets have organized themselves in a certain way. Certainly you can see the insanity of fighting that with regulation legislation.
