And that I have to go to an inconvenient hospital for my colonoscopy.

Then whip out your checkbook and pay for it yourself.
Pay enough and you can have the procedure done in the convenience of your own home.

You get choice from the market. From government you get a standard package.

Then drop out of Medicare and go back to private insurance. We aren't forced into Medicare....anyone can opt out.

Choice would require different sets of benefits and different cost structures.

But you have this now. You could 'choose' to leave Medicare to obtain a different set of benefits with different cost structures. Heck, if you were out of Medicare completely and willing to pay enough, you could have a colonoscopy done in the middle of Dupont Circle if that floats your boat.

There must be a big sale everywhere on rose-colored glasses.

Perhaps, but maybe it's you that are wearing them. Everyone I know accepts that Medicare is what it is. They don't expect more of it, or if they did, they would already know that they would pay a higher premium.

I don't mean to be ugly, but the nature of your complaints makes me think that you are the one with the rose-colored glasses, or at least a basic misunderstanding of how any benefit package is a compromise between benefits and the costs of providing them.

Had I expressed a preference re Medicare coverage it would have been that it cover less rather than more.

But you complained that Medicare doesn't cover annual physicals, shingles vaccinations, and multiple heart scans. So which is it? Do you want more coverage or less coverage?

Or is it that you think it should cover all the things that you personally want it to cover?
