"I, for one -- though a newly converted liberal -- was cheering."

If so, that means you didn't understand the issues. No big surprise. All of the ATC's reasons for striking were related to safety. Their number one issue was with the control system. It was antiquated, designed in the 1960's, by the time the 1980's rolled around it was obsolete. It frequently crashed, and when that happened it relied on the ATC in charge to remember every flight and their parameters, write them down and put them in little boats that they then manually pushed around a board according to their best guess. If they guessed wrong, people died.

And they did.

It is funny. You support twisting our whole way of life on the off chance that someone with Muslim leanings might kill someone, yet you are ok with people dying because upgrading a vital system cost a few billion dollars.
