Learning Japanese up to a working level is no more difficult than German in my experience.
German is pretty tough.

That said, the Roman languages - except for the French pronunciation - are reasonably easy for any native English speaker, who really gives it a fair shot.

Start with Spanish, may soon come in as handy for your guys as Arabic will soon become to the Europeans :)

At least a vast amount of vocabulary is pretty much the same.
The structure is different from English, however, but pretty much the same for all of them.
