Are either of the above relevant? Max Weber was one of the most highly educted people the world ever produced.

And you are concentrating on the wrong thing i.e an economic system rather than a political system. As long as democracy reigns supreme, the types of economic systems are the result of the peoples will.

All democracies have some sort of welfare state (socialism). And the people get to decide how much they want by democratic methods. Do you want to get rid of social security and medicare?

Across the nation people are elected at the city (city councils)and school boards, planning commisions, state and federal levels to decide how much socialism they want. Remember we get our roads build and water and sewer systems by democratic socialism.

Socialism is a scare word that means nothing in a democracy.
