This is where we differ. It is precisely the other way around - Governments organized the drug market as a government market. Drug pricing - and pharma funding - was made, in too many respects NOT an economic, but a political issue... Being different from other nations served America well.

Only if you think paying double for drugs is good.

Listen, why do we need legislation saying the government can't negotiate with the drug companies? Why do we need legislation saying we CAN'T re-import drugs from Canada? Should we have laws saying the government CAN'T negotiate with car companies when they purchase cars, maintenance companies when they buy janitorial services, defense companies when they buy fighter jets, plumbing companies when they buy toilet seats <g> etc etc. Are those guys not due the same protection from the evil government?

It's ludicrous. And it's really strange that the libertarian/conservative faction on this thread would support it.
