Gib, having minerals or other natural resources is not associated with wealth. In any event, NZ has lots of natural resource. Have you not noticed how well grass grows here, and other crops. Have you not noticed the amount of water that comes down? In some countries, water is called a precious resource.

I have no natural resources but seem to be doing okay. I swapped talent and effort for cash on the barrel.

NZ could do as I suggested and be much richer than Australia in 5 years.

We wouldn't need to strike gold or oil.

Make NZ a tax-free cyberspace Mecca. String fibre around the planet from here and install fibre around NZ [not to poor places but to Nelson, Queenstown, Whangamata, Cook Islands, Norfolk Island, Mount Maunganui, Ohakune, Kerikeri, Taupo Bay, Tauranga Bay, Russell and all those good places where Geeks would like to live]. Cut tax to zero. Sell Tradable Citizenships and carry out the other parts of the plan.

Bollard is basically wrong.
