I hear you, Bob. That's a sad story. My grandmother also died in a nursing home paid for by the government. It was routine for us to find her with bruises and soiled. I'm certain that she died a few years earlier than she would have with better care. I promised myself that I'd go without food before I'd let my mother go through the same thing.

Life has been good to us, so we bought my mom a house and have LTC insurance for her in case she ever needs at home care. So far, we've been lucky.

But just what percentage of the population can afford to do what we've done? Why is it that I get to do this for my mother and many of the rest of Americans aren't as lucky? I wish there was a way to make it better, if only a little bit, for the rest of the country. That's why I want health care reform. We have to get those costs down, competition up, and benefits up. Right now, the ever increasing costs and decreasing benefits tells me that we do not have a free market in health care. Something's got to change.
