Unfortunately, that's not how or why people get on a Board. Board members typically are chosen on the basis of their being able to generate more business for the company. That can happen if you nominate a big enchilada, whose influence with other big enchiladas promotes a more favorable view of the company, and indirectly more customers.

Some board members are simply representatives of the founding family, in which case a different basis for choice is at stake.

And occasionally some people get on a board because they have unique skills or knowledge that can add to the quality of governance. Rarely does anyone get on a board because his/her views run counter to the consensus.
