Yep, should have included universities as a factor. The heavy investment Universities continues. The universities are also an effective export success, people from all over the world have US schools at the top of the list.

I don't see the US becoming an anti-intellectual society, even with G W Bush and Sarah Palin. I don't think she is smart enough to be an anti-intellectual...

However, the we-know-better-than-you crowd of "left intellectuals" has been having a fit since the middle of the Clinton prosperity, when they were pushed away from power by the centrist Democrat Clinton led DLC. This "left" group has also tried to push Christianity out of all public life (far beyond any separation of church and state) and they want to characterize their opponents as yahoos and hicks.

Totally ignoring all the evidence that Jesus DID ride a dinosaur.

So I think this is just another chapter in the ongoing culture wars.
