"Those engineers, and their progeny, are continuing to work at the vanguard of 4G, and beyond. R&D, from superlative engineers, remains the life blood of Qualcomm."

That life blood you speak of reminds me of another topic close to my heart. How will LTE deployment impact QCOM earnings.? The Flarion investment for QCOM may pay off in that regard. The overall outlook of the company is a larger concern.

Verizon will deploy LTE on a limited basis this year. My understanding is that LTE and CDMA are not compatable. Appropriate handsets are required. Does that mean a paralled network for Verizon? I don't see how Verizon could phase out CDMA in any short time frame. Something has to happen.

An arrangement with Microsoft for Windows Phone 7 to run on Snapdragon chips is great. I assume these chips and similar software could/would be in LTE type smartphones. If CDMA is eventually replaced by LTE doesn't that fact imply fewer royalties for QCOM on its CDMA patents. Is QCOM
going to be in a position to replace LTE revenues for decreasing CDMA revenues?

I don't see LTE as an immediate threat to QCOM. It is not clear how how long it will take to have LTE dominate.
But the threat doesn't seem too far away. I just don't see
the business model associated with the transition. Can you help lessen the haze for me.
