Dual mode CDMA/LTE and HSDPA/EDGE/GSM devices will be around for years, likely decades, even after all the LTE islands of coverage are built out. Qualcomm gets CDMA royalties on all such subscriber equipment.
As for LTE royalties, Qualcomm already has licensed three of the top five handset makers for all 4G technologies - Nokia, Samsung, and LG. Additionally, they have a number of stand alone 4G licenses with companies not involved in CDMA. Their revenue stream in multi-mode and single mode 4G technologies are secure, thanks in great part to the purchase of Flarion.
