Medicare...

Medicare is a zero sum cost...seniors need care and the cost can't be eliminated. If there are concrete and fiscally sound policies to reduce that cost, they should be pursued vigorously...but after that, the debate should be how to pay for these costs. The obvious options are:

1. Increase taxes in some graduated fashion
2. Pass more of the actual medical costs on to patients, probably best done progressively from both time and financial standing view points.

To bitch about Medicare in an abstract fashion, as so many conservative do, is to distort the issue for people, who come to think of these programs as evil, rather than unavoidable.

Would it amaze you to know that another 37% of our budget is for the military, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and for spending on veterans when they come home, all three considered sacred cows that no Party wants to make cuts against? So that is fuly 71% of the budget that neither party wants to make cuts from.

Here are truly actionable costs...we spend more on defense the rest of the world combined. It's madness...but no one is willing to touch this one...again because of conservative hyperbole and politics.
