I think we should kill all the old sacred cows. Why must we take it as a God-given fact that our government must pay for Medicare? There has to be a market solution for this. We only need for some smart economists with health care expertise to sit in a room and figure it out.

And if they come back and say that mandates are needed, then at the very least we should couple the mandate with an implementation scheme that is driven by private enterprise, with the government ensuring that no monopolies can take root and that competition is encouraged.

Right now, we know the health care industry is not a free market, because it is exhibiting the classic oligopolistic symptoms of perpetually rising costs and decreasing benefits to consumers.
