Bentway, you described the situation perfectly. However, I do believe something can be done within the Dem party to instill voting block discipline. The President and the House and Senate majority leaders have a hell of a lot of power to strong arm their caucus, including taking away privileges of seniority, threatening to withold campaign funds, and horse trading future legislation concessions for current legislative priorities. Of course, they can always buy them off with pork, but in this environment, the American people take a very dim view of pork, and rightly so.

My chief complain with the Dems is that they have acted spineless despite the super majority. Pelosi did what she needed to do. Reid is a spineless dimwit and should be replaced. I place the biggest blame on Reid, who doesn't know how to lead.

Let me put it this way. If I used only the carrot with my team at work, then I'd never get anything accomplished. I have to balance the carrot with the stick to maximize cost versus benefit and keep people on their toes. People simply don't respect leaders whom they can blackmail whenever they feel like it. Reid and Obama are both proving surprisingly easy to blackmail. They need to grow spines.
