Z and all, competition for Quantum?... HEWLETT PACKARD (Monday's close: 63-1/2), IBM (Monday's close: 101-5/8) and SEAGATE TECH (Monday's close: 28-9/16) have agreed to develop a standardized tape technology to simplify the network storage industry. The effort is aimed at delivering open format specifications and is slated to be offered on a licensee basis. Each of the three participants will buy licenses and pay licensing fees. The companies will set up an entity to handle licensing requests. The companies will release further information as the project gets under way.
