Here's the rest of the story on the Videocard problem. I was preparing to take the ATI Radeon card back to BestBuy and start completely over when I decided to call their Geek Squad desk one more time. They had previously told me they thought there was 'no solution' to spreading the desktop over two monitors. This time I got a guy who immediately knew what I needed: A $12 DVI to VGA adapter. I picked it up and a few minutes later it is working fine.
It is interesting that four different help desks were stumped by this: Geek Squad, Dell, ATI Radeon and Tiger Direct. Just goes to show you there are a lot of hardware updates for folks to keep track of and a lot of tech people just can't keep current.
The closest solution previous to this was an ATI Radeon guy suggesting an $80 HDMI-VGA converter cable, but even then he wasn't sure it would work.
Anyway thanks for the input on this board. Project completed.
The worst support by far was the Dell people.. their guys sounded like they were in Mumbai, didn't speak good English and gave me flat out incorrect information.
