That too. <g>
I knew she was a great skier (arguably the best ever, at this point), but she also showed a lot of class this afternoon ...
The whole race is worth watching if they're replaying it tonight, it was a frigging demolition derby (another rap against VANOC, probably), half of the field either crashed or pussy-footed down the course ...
Anyway, back to Vonn: shortly after her run, and before any of the serious crashing took place, a French skier inexplicably fell only 10 feet after she was out of the gate -- it was like cow-tipping somehow, it was that strange -- and they cut to the crowd, the girl's shocked mother, then what I took to be her sister, given her look of horror and empathy ... took me a few seconds to realize it was her.
A while later, a Swedish skier was giving her her only serious challenge when she took a horrific fall on the final jump (she would have been second at worst, easily), and they again cut to Vonn ... not a glimmer of relief on her face, only pure consternation.
She absolutely owned the hill today, but that's not what impressed me most. |
