well, wouldn't a better solution be to repeal the anti-trust laws for the health industry and optimize regulations that create competitive forces that encourage private companies to compete across state lines?

Again, you seem to be confusing insurance industry vs health care providers....there are exclusions that protect insurance companies against anti trust legal action when they divide up geographies and appear to be creating regional monopolies...but there are no antitrust laws that keep the health care industry from competing across state lines...and, yes...i have already agreed that it would fine to let insurance companies do business across state lines, but how do you make a doctor/hospital/surgeon in Florida provide care to a patient in Alabama? That's where the bulk of the cost is. For costs to be contained, the industry has to be regulated, almost like a utility company...

One of the good ideas I saw in the current health bill was the creation of a competitive exchange. I thought that was a good idea, because it helps to simplify and creates a marketplace where private companies have to compete for our business instead of us having such limited choices.

An exchange of public insurance companies can't regulate health care reimbursements the way a Medicare-like entity can.
