Most people including most conservatives don't care what people do in private. But toleration isn't enough.

No toleration isn't enough. Equality is what is required. In the 60's we tolerated blacks. Was that enough? Before women were enfranchised and treated as equals, men tolerated their silly intrusions into a man's world. Was that enough?

Fact is the aggression in the culture war is coming from the left.

You are right about that and thank God we have a good portion of the population that believes in cultural progress. If we didn't, then we'd be no better than the Taliban with their cultural paralysis. The left has indeed brought about an amazing amount of very healthy cultural change including equality for women and blacks. I hope they can also get equality for gay people. America is too good of a country to tolerate any kind of active prejudice or denial of the right of people to live their lives as they choose and pursue happiness like all the rest of us.
