Wharfy, <"is not have any professional athletes at the olympics at all"> It's interesting - the truly great hockey games that I remember, 1960 Squaw Valley (at the Broadmore) US vs Soviets, and 1980 US vs. Soviets at Lake Placid, were played by a bunch of US college kids with no pro experience and some just six months after graduation. The Soviets essentially had a pro team (Dynamo Moscow)and that's what made the victory so thrilling. After that when the pro's played,.. yes there were some good games, but no emotional thrillers that really captured everyone's imagination. Don't get me wrong...I love to see Sydney Crosby play, but I can watch the Penquins to do that. There's something about pure athleticism of the amateur that I love. The 1960 guys all went back to work after the Olympics with the exception of Jack McCarten who became the goalie for the Rangers. Christian brothers, Cleary brothers, Bobby MacVey were all pure amateurs to name a few. I've played golf with Bill Cleary - when you ask him about 1960, he smiles but is very modest and chuckles at the fact they beat the Russians in the semis and then went on to win the gold. Enough nostalgia for this morning. I'm loving the Olympics. Altair19
