Network Connection and Fairlines Finalize AirView Contract; Initial Content Co-Developed by and Features Turner-Time Warner Programming
ATLANTA, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Network Connection, Inc. (TNCi) (Nasdaq:TNCX) announced today the finalization of a contract with Fairlines, a new French commercial airline. The total contract, valued at $13 million, calls for TNCi to provide equipment ($10 million over 18 months) and maintain equipment and manage content services ($3 million over 5 years) hosted on AirView, TNCi's advanced in-flight entertainment (IFE) and cabin management system (CMS) to be installed on the Fairlines fleet of ten (10) MD80 series aircraft.

TNCi has completed co-development with Turner Non-Theatrical Services (TNTS) for an initial Turner category of programs and services to be featured in the fully digital AirView IFE system on Fairlines. AirView, an extremely sophisticated, next generation in-flight system, provides video-on-demand entertainment, games, shopping and interactive advertising to passengers through seat mounted monitors. The Turner category, or airborne virtual network, will be accessible to passengers, with individual user control, at the touch of a button on their personal 11.3 inch color AirView touch-screen display mounted at each seat. The network will showcase Turner-Time Warner programming, such as CNN, Turner feature short-subject entertainment and information programs and Warner Brothers award winning programs such as ''Friends.''

''TNTS strives to remain on the cutting edge on in-flight entertainment so that we can provide the best and most creative options for airline passengers,'' said Carol Gregoire, director of Turner Non-Theatrical Services. ''AirView is an intriguing new medium with a great deal of promise. We intend to work with TNCi and fully explore the potential for growth and expansion through the airborne virtual network.''

According to Eric Schindler, vice president of content at TNCi, ''The AirView system on Fairlines will offer passengers the most advanced and exciting interactive information and entertainment services in the industry. We are anxious to debut this industry first, web-based, exciting new media to Fairlines passengers on flights scheduled to begin from France's, Roissy-Charles-de-Gaul airport in late November. The AirView services are custom designed to offer Fairlines clients the highest quality of service and entertainment.''

Wil Riner, Chairman and CEO of TNCi commented, ''We are very pleased with the success achieved on Fairlines and other larger programs which has greatly enhanced our opportunities with other potential customers. The Fairlines program, with our AirView system, is ahead of schedule and has contributed significantly toward advanced discussions with other airline, train, cruise ship and hotel operators and manufacturers, many of which have code sharing arrangements with Fairlines. Our success on the South Korean Government High School program ($30 million over 24 months) remains strong with the South Korean governments commitment to remain a world leader in education.''

TNTS is the non-theatrical distribution of Turner Home Entertainment, catering to the markets of world-wide airlines, cruise ships, buses, trains, colleges and hospitals. T.H.E., a wholly owned subsidiary of Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., handles worldwide home video and non-theatrical distribution; book publishing; online media development and distribution; retail operations; and licensing and merchandising of TBS-owned properties.
