Geography doesn't define property. People can own property around the world these days. It doesn't have to be within a stone's throw of your sleeping quarters.

The reason Chile doesn't own Shetland Islands is because they never did, not because they are a long way away. <The Falklands are not part of Britain in the same way the Shetland Isles and Outer Hebridies are not part of Chile >

Even if a property is right there in the midst of a land mass, definitely within the continental shelf, such as Luxembourg or Switzerland, it doesn't mean a neighbouring country owns it just because its small.

Saddam made that mistake with Kuwait.

It seems hard for some people to understand some concepts. Property rights is a tricky thing, which little children have trouble with, grabbing each others' toys, with no visible way of deciding who owns what. Some children never figure it out and want to own everything and get angry when they don't. Sort of like an alpha male chimp, ruler of all he surveys.
