Appeasement often seems cheaper and bullying criminal thugs depend on their victims not fighting back. Back luck for the Argentinians and those going glug glug glug on the Belgrano...

If Argentina wants another war, it might be cheaper just to send a submarine with some tactical nuclear weapons to show the error of the Argentine ideas.

Why should UK negotiate at all with Argentina? Maybe there are convenient suppliers in Argentina. That would make it worthwhile for the oil explorers. But maybe Brazil would like some business.
