Mq, it's simpler than that and it may actually be good for the USA:

If you make private insurance unprofitable via legislation, then the way is open for national insurance -- Medicare for everyone. Just like in most other developed countries, who pay half as much as the US for health care and get the same or better outcomes.

The insurance industry managed to torpedo the better parts of the health care bill in the US. It forgot that it can be easily legislated out of existence by simply making unlawful all the things that make it profitable. Those things coincidentally are the ones everybody hates.
