Hewlett-Packard (HWP), IBM (IBM) , and Seagate Technology (SEG) said today they have agreed to develop a standardized tape technology to simplify the network storage industry. . James Vanderslice, vice president and general manager of IBM, said, "In making our decision to work together, we all recognized that customers would rather simplify the tape buying decision than see the proliferation of multiple tape formats and technologies continue."

Hey IBM, lets form a consortium to simplify tape buying for the customer. We'll work out the details later. Ya right! I think HP, IBM and SEG are recognizing that Quantum's DLT is becoming the de facto standard and NFR appears to only strengthen Quantum's market share.
