"The same or better outcomes" is incorrect. We have what you are thinking of in NZ. <Just like in most other developed countries, who pay half as much as the US for health care and get the same or better outcomes. >

I don't have health insurance and don't use government services. If I have a medical need, I go shopping in a similar way to buying new tyres or some groceries.

I investigate the various options and choose what seems to be a good supplier of those services.

Unfortunately, because of the socialized medical system, the options are expensive and poor quality in NZ. Scripps in San Diego was nice to go to. But the AMA and restrictive laws make that grossly inadequate too.

Part of the reason the USA medical system is so expensive is because the very high GDP per capita, government regulations and restrictive trade practises make medical experts very expensive due to supply and demand balances.

If you think life will improve by handing the medical industry over to Homeland Security, or the equivalent, you should consider the cost of Homeland Security and the joys they have brought to your life.

We already have Death Panels in NZ. There is a grave shortage of funds and grave is the operative word. Burying problems solves a lot. They tell you what medical treatment you are allowed to have and bad luck for you if that's unsuitable. Many people died because they were not told about Rituxan for example and if they did know about it, they were not permitted to have it. There is any number of examples of death through medical mayhem and legions of people in discomfort.

The best way to cut medical costs in the USA is to deregulate the industry, perform major surgery on government spending and cut taxes.

If people want to buy tyres, groceries, or medical treatment, they should get a job and go shopping.
