Right, but the best way to guarantee that is to have a system that is self-sustaining. The current system will be in the red in 5 years and then will eventually bankrupt this country. A bankrupt country can't give out freebies to old people. So wouldn't you prefer we put social security on a sustainable path, so that it can provide at least something to all future generations?

This all or nothing mentality has got to stop among both the Dems and the GOP. Compromise is the only way we're going to get to solutions.
