I really don't get down in the weeds on this stuff. The healthcare reform is designed to work in sync with Medicare and try to fix some of the long-term cost issues there too, though the Reps used that aspect of the bill to demagogue it last year.

As to speculating what one family could or should or will pay, I find that kind of guessing fairly useless. People use those "examples" to "prove" the conclusions they had in mind in the first place about what should be done.

I'd like to see my brother have access to reliable, affordable healthcare for his family at rates that can't be jacked up 39% overnight. I know that will not happen under the current system. He will not magically "find a way to pay for it" in his current condition.

Your definition of "most people" simply dumps out more than 30 million human beings who deserve better in a rich, modern society.

Whatever tax changes come my way will be trivial. For me to scream about personal impacts when the broader picture is so compelling, is quite selfish, IMHO.
