Mary, you may have missed it, but I'm on record here numerous times as saying I favor a single-payer European style health insurance system. I'd get excited about anything (public option?) that turned the country in that direction.

What I don't like is the current Obama proposal. It may have some good elements, but if it is put in place, we go off in a different direction, never to have lower premium single-payer and forever in the arms of the health insurers.

I see another huge un or under-funded liability in the making mostly hitting the states. Plus I see a hit to the economy when healthy young people are forced to buy bloated, frilly policies from private insurers that they don't need, i.e. over-insured.

Any comments or articles appealing to my sense of charity (which is strong, btw) won't change my opinion.
