The truth is that systems are not the same.

I think the point my professor was trying to make was that a political ideology, pursued to it's extreme is ultimately about total control over economic power and wealth in a society.

They are certainly not the same in how they pursue that extreme goal, but large corporations and large governments, unrestrained by accountability to the people, both have a tendency to want to increase their power and control over rivals and that population.
