OT: Toyota. I was listening to a Consumer Reports employee last night on PBS. He basically said Toyota is still, even with the recalls, one of the top manufacturers in terms of quality of build. In fact if I got it right they have the top rated model.

He went on to say that recalls are good things for the consumer and should not be discouraged AND that all companies have recalls and that Toyota was not even close to being the worst.

This situation is very similar to the way consumers "perceived" Apple for many years... WRONG! Many still see Apple this way, foolishly.

Most consumers go by "perception" on cars as well as computers. Personally I try to go as much as I can by FACTS. Which makes me unusual but a smarter consumer I hope.

Which is why I have 2 Macs going on 3 and two Toyotas and an antique Cadillacs and antique furniture.

I would hate to buy any car without consulting Consumer Reports and other websites for Frequency of Repair statistics, which Toyota has won for many years.

Toyota blew this one for sure but that almost guarantees they won't do it again. Apple has pulled some pretty stupid mistakes on their machines too.

Hopefully they've both learned to fess up and fix rather than try to cover it over.
