I'm not sure it would have been any better if Toshiba had won with HD-DVD. I think it would have been. Sony has been a bear as far as licensing... as is their way. Thus the S. Jobs reaction. And others. It has really slowed adoption. It's my humble (and minority) guess BR will never reach critical mass and that some other tech/format will come along first. Sony greed will lead them to shoot themselves in the foot. I think the real problem is that a format war was allowed to develop in the first place. "Can't we all just get along?" I guess not.
