Fair enough.

My point, though, is directed at the tendency (quite prevalent on SI...and elsewhere these days) advocating extreme views one way or the other with regard to govt. involvement in our lives. From the howls on the extreme right, you'd think the ship of govt. flew a skull and crossbones flag. Their role is essential, though - especially when you have organizations and corporations that can shape and move markets just as effectively as the govt.
